Many songs have been written about home, as well as many popular sayings. One of my favorite is taken from the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy said, “there’s no place like home.” How true. Often we look forward to going somewhere to get away and relax, only to find after a short time we desire to be home. Home is bigger than where you live, it is what comprises your life. It is friends and family, jobs, activities. All of these and more make up the place we call home.
Recently I was gone for a very short time to Kansas. It wasn’t long at all before I missed home (nothing against Kansas). And then I got to thinking. Perhaps that is what God is trying to tell us. He has said quite plainly that this world is not our home, but as much as he tries to convince us, we tend to embrace this world all the more. In telling us about our eternal home, he is trying to make us “homesick,” so we would look forward to the day when we spend eternity with him. Let us totally surrender our lives to God, serving him with all we are and all we have. Until he calls us home to live with him forever. As for me, I’m just glad to be home. I missed all of you while I was away, Blessings. -Lamar
